About Tui Na

Tui Na, Chinese massage techniques at ADIO Acupuncture

Tui Na is a bodywork therapy that has been used in China for over 2,000 years. Tui Na uses the traditional Chinese medicine theory facilitating the flow of Qi, Blood, and Fluids through the meridians as its basic principle. Through the application of soft tissue and manipulation techniques Tui Na establishes a harmonious flow of substances through the channels facilitating the body's natural ability to heal itself.

Tui Na methods include the use of hand techniques to manipulate soft tissues, acupressure to direct the flow of Qi, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal and ligamentous interaction. External herbal poultices, compresses, liniments and salves are also incorporated to enhance the other therapeutic methods.

A typical Tui Na Treatment is done over the patients clothing. The practitioner examines the specific problems and applies a specific treatment protocol. Treatments last from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Benefits of Tui Na

Tui Na is well suited for the treatment of Musculoskeletal disorders and chronic stress related disorders. Tui Na has a simplistic approach which focuses on specific problems in the body, making it an excellent alternative or compliment to therapeutic massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, and acupuncture.

Tui Na is not for those seeking a mild, sedating and relaxing type of therapy. It is primary for those seeking treatment of specific problems.

In our clinic we utilize Tui Na as an adjunct to acupuncture treatment. It is used almost always for those patients who are seeking treatment for Musculoskeletal problems or athletic enhancement. This is an area of Chinese medicine that our clinic specializes in, setting us apart from other acupuncture clinics in the area. Some patients will get Tui Na treatment alone to treat certain conditions.

While Tui Na is utilized extensively for conditions of the muscular and skeletal system, their are some other conditions that respond favorably to treatment. Your acupuncturist can determine if Tui Na is appropriate for you based on your individual condition. || Below is a list of conditions that we utilize Tui Na treatments for with excellent results.
